April 15, 2011Maternity Sessions
- It is advisable to book ahead for your maternity session so that it can take place when you are around 32-34 weeks. This is when your tummy is nice and full and shapely. If you are having twins, you will want to book much sooner.
- Make sure you are well rested the day before, you could even use this as an excuse to pamper yourself with some maternity safe beauty treatments, new hair or nails etc. Go on, it might be your last chance for a while!
- On the day be sure to have plenty to eat and drink before the session, and during it. Let me know whenever you need a break.
- Of course you will, but try not to worry too much about the way you look. I will chat and joke with you to help you relax as I take the pictures and I know all of the most flattering poses, so I promise you will be glowing in the photos!
- If you would like some artistic semi nude photography then make sure you avoid tight clothing before the shoot, even keep your bra off if it’s not too uncomfortable to do so. If you have a belly band, I recommend bringing it. It makes a great top for seminude pictures
- In terms of clothing, the usual rules apply. Don’t wear anything with a big distracting logo or insane pattern! Keep it fairly simple and classic. Bold colors and textures like denim and knitwear are great. Choose something fitted to show off your curves rather than baggy clothes.
- Have a few different outfits ready so that we can change halfway through and I can help you decide on the best ones.
- I love accessories so feel free to dress up your outfit with nice jewelry, scarves etc.
- If you would like photos with your partner then dress yourselves in a coordinating fashion (similar colors and styles) but not exactly the same! In the studio I usually do pictures with your parter on a black background, so have them wear a black shirt and jeans.
Newborn Sessions
- The best time for me to photograph your newborn is within the first 6-12 days of life. This is when baby is tiny and brand new. When they still love to curl into those sweet womb-like positions. It’s also when baby is most sleepy. After 2 weeks or so, babies tend to stretch those legs out and spend more time awake. It is also when colic and baby acne can kick in.
- If you would like to book a newborn session with us contact us as early as possible in your pregnancy. Since we don’t know when baby will arrive, we will book your session then finalize our date/time once baby arrives.
- During the session…PLEASE Relax! If your baby won’t settle, then getting worried about it will only make it worse. I’m in no rush and everything will be fine. If we are doing au-naturale photos then I fully expect myself and my blankets to get poo’d and wee’d on! It’s ok, its all part of the job! It would also be a good idea to have some spare clothes handy for yourself, in case you get soiled too!
- If the session is at your home, please get the room as warm as possible, I mean really warm and almost uncomfortable for adults if you can!! A warm baby will be content and settled. Have plenty of blankets on hand to keep them warm and covered. If you are coming to the studio bring lots extra diapers, wipes and formula.
- It’s important to have the environment that is as quiet and relaxed as possible before and during our session. While I’m sure you will have tons of family and friends wanting to see your new arrival, please try to keep them away on the day of your photos shoot. If you have other children it might be a good idea to have one friend or family member around to entertain them during the session so that you don’t have to worry about them and of course they can make an appearance in some of the photos with their new sibling.
- Be prepared to feed your baby – a LOT! If they won’t settle then we may need to top them up several times to get them off into a deep sleep.
- Please bring black clothes to wear for the family and artistic b/w portraits.
- Moms you might also consider a gorgeous skin to skin photo with your baby, maybe with you both wrapped together in some nice fabric. Don’t worry about how you think you look after having giving birth, I promise you will look gorgeous and it’s so wonderful to have photos of that early bond with your baby.
- Dads – it can be great for you to have a skin to skin photo too, they look so wonderful, so let me know if you’re up for whipping your top off!
- When it comes to clothing for your baby it’s down to your personal preference. I love the au naturale look, either completely naked (of course carefully composed to hide any bits and pieces) or just with a diaper cover and blankets. If we will be posing the baby without clothes then try to keep them in loose clothing and no headbands or hats before I arrive to avoid marks in the skin. If you would rather have your baby clothed then please choose simple, plain one piece outfits. Bodysuits are best so that you can still see those little toes, chubby legs and arms.
